媽祖是台灣中南部的民眾信仰的主要神明之一，供奉媽祖的天后宮在這個區域中， 為數不少。 這座有四十多年歷史的小型廟宇鄰近我所居住的社區；近年來香火鼎盛，宗教活動亦相當頻繁。
Matsu is one of the main deity of popular religions in central and southern Taiwan. In these areas,there are a large number of Tin Hau Temples which are dedicated to Matsu. This small temple which has forty years of history is in the neighborhood of the community where I live. In recent years, there were many visiting pilgrims, and religious activities were also quite frequent.

位於左營新莊仔的山上天后宮，先前是從台南縣山上鄉山上天后宮分靈而來，民國五十八年，玉二聖母賜准天三聖母聖駕高雄市鎮境。 遂於民國六十年於陳阿生住宅鎮座供奉。民國六十一年令陳暫安為壇主。 民國六十二年購買民宅一間，整修建成廟宇，定名為高雄山上天后宮。民國六十九年購買新廟地，同年八月由洪春發當選興建委員會主任委員，積極規劃興建事宜，遂 於民國七十三年動土，七十七年圓滿落成，佔地約八十餘坪，規劃為中國傳統廟宇結構，正南式構造，廟貌精緻而典雅。
